In Our Bones is the debut studio album of American pop-rock band, Against The Current. It was released on May 20, 2016.

Background and ReleaseEdit

Following the band's announcement of their signing to Fueled By Ramen and the release of their second EP, Against The Current began recording new material at Studio America in Los Angeles, California for their next addition to the band's discography that year. On August 1, 2015, Against The Current announced that they had finished recording their first full-length album. On February 6th, 2016, Against the Current announced their upcoming album's name, In Our Bones, as well as the intended release date, May 20, 2016. The album was released on the confirmed date, and was met with generally positive reviews from critics and fans alike.

The band began attending many interviews and tours. Costanza talked to Alternative Press about how their major label debut felt with the studio sessions, any musical differences between their two independently made extended plays and this album, what messages they want to convey with their recording, and if there were any risky moments. They were a supporting act in the Back to the Future Hearts Tour with All Time Low and Good Charlotte from February 10 to February 16 in the UK. They began their headlining tour, the Running with the Wild Things Tour, with ROAM from February 20 to March 21 in Europe. Following the release of "In Our Bones", the band immediately began touring in support of their album by performing in the 2016 Vans Warped Tour. To further promote their album, the band plans to embark on another headlining tour, In Our Bones World Tour, which is scheduled to begin in September of 2016 and will cover Asia and Europe.

Critical ReceptionEdit

Template:Album ratings In Our Bones had met with generally very positive reviews from both critics and fans alike. It has been called "pop-rock perfection" at Alternative Press. Rock Sound gave the album an 8/10, stating that "This album fizzes into life with ‘Running With The Wild Things’, and rarely lets up. ‘Forget Me Now’ is an arena-filling anthem already and ‘One More Weekend’ a feel-good summer smash that’s primed for radio, while there are shades of Halsey on the intricate, measured swell of ‘Wasteland’. ‘In Our Bones’ is a versatile, ballsy take on modern pop-rock, and it’s impossible not to sit back and admire as Chrissy, Dan and Will take another step on the way to superstardom." Jobn lennon of Sputnikmusic gave the album a score of 3.9/5, praising the record for how it "demonstrated range and experimentation that was refreshing for a release in that space...." He called the album "delightfully energetic" and praised lead singer, Chrissy Costanza, for her performance, saying "Vocalist Chrissy Costanza carries the song like she's budgeting a single breath. Her presence is immediate and effortless, with no reservation in earshot...Costanza, and all of her twenty-one years, hits every beat of how we tell one another off in 2016. More impressive, however, is that elsewhere on the record, when the needle swings back the other way and she needs to dial down the bravado, Costanza shows that she has the poise to pull it off." However, he criticizes the album's lyrical content and originality, saying, "Runaway" is maybe the most clichéd lyrical regurgitation imaginable....there's not much new in the way of substance" but states that the record redeems itself "mainly because of its near-perfect execution of the same earnest pop rock dynamics that have wrapped themselves around our hearts for the past 40 or so years."
